8 Simple Tips for Maintaining a Clean Kitchen

1. Kitchen Sink

Time needed: 5-10 minutes.

Tools required: Baking soda, white vinegar, and a non-abrasive scrubber.

Steps:

1) Begin by mixing your baking soda and white vinegar in a 1:2 ratio. Then, add the mixture to a spray bottle or a bowl.

2) Give the sink a pre-rinse with water to clear all food particles.

3) Spray or pour enough of the cleaning mixture to coat all surfaces evenly.

4) Let sit for 30-60 seconds.

5) Scrub the surfaces using the non-abrasive scrubber.

6) Rinse and enjoy your fresh and clean sink!

 

2. Pantry

Time needed: 20 minutes.

Tools required: Vacuum, warm soapy water, paper towels, or a rag.

Steps:

1) Begin by removing all items from the pantry shelves. Set them on the table or countertops, out of the way.

2) Use your vacuum to remove all crumbs and spilled foods.

3) Once the crumbs are cleared, dip your rag or towels in the warm soapy water mixture and begin wiping each surface off.

4) Finish with a dry rag or paper towel to be sure everything is completely dried.

5) Return all items to the shelves.

 

3. Fridge Odors

Time needed: 10 minutes.

Tools required: Hot water, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, paper towels, and an old toothbrush.

Steps:

1) Remove all food and drink items from the fridge and set them aside.

2) Mix the hot water with two tablespoons of baking soda.

3) Wipe down each surface with the paper towels dipped in the hot water solution.

4) Dip the toothbrush in the solution and scrub any stuck-on stains.

5) Use dry towels to make sure each surface is dried off.

6) Put all items back and enjoy!

 

4. Oven

Time needed: 15 minutes.

Tools required: Baking soda, damp paper towels, water, white vinegar, and a spray bottle.

Steps:

1) Begin by mixing ½ cup of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of water.

2) Spread this mixture throughout the oven, thoroughly covering any caked-on stains or residue.

3) Let this solution sit while you gently wash your oven racks with dish soap in the kitchen sink.

4) Once the oven racks are cleaned, wipe out as much of the baking soda paste as possible.

5) Next, add vinegar to a spray bottle and coat the inside of the oven with the vinegar.

6) Wipe with a damp cloth or paper towels.

 

5. Countertops

Time needed: 5 minutes.

Tools required: cotton cloth, mild detergent or vinegar, water, microfiber towel.

Steps:

1) Dampen your cloth with a small amount of water. Then, add a tablespoon of detergent to the center of the cloth. If you don’t have detergent on hand, vinegar may be substituted.

2) Gently fold the cloth in half to spread the detergent out.

3) Take the cloth and wipe the countertop surfaces, covering them entirely.

4) Using the microfiber towel, go over the entire surface again to reveal the shine.

 

6. Small Kitchen Appliances

Time needed: 10-20 minutes

Tools required: Damp cloth, dry microfiber cloth, dish soap or vinegar, and hot water.

Steps:

1) Dip your cloth into hot water and dish soap mixture. Roughly 1 cup of water with 2-3 drops of dish soap will do. If you don’t have dish soap on hand, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar work as well.

2) Wipe the cloth along all appliance surfaces, paying particular attention to any stuck-on particles.

3) Rinse out the cloth and repeat over all surfaces.

4) Dry with the microfiber towel to avoid streaking, especially on stainless steel appliances

 

7. Stovetop

Time needed: 15-20 minutes

Tools required: Non-abrasive sponge, and dish soap or 1:2 baking soda and vinegar.

Steps:

1) Dampen your sponge in the sink and add a few drops of your dish soap or the 1:2 mixture.

2) Remove the burner grates and set them aside.

3) Using the soap sponge, wipe down all surfaces of the stovetop.

4) Wring the sponge out and ensure all the soap is rinsed out.

5) Go over the stovetop again with the water-only sponge.

6) Wipe the surfaces down with a clean, dry towel.

7) Place the burner grates back on the stovetop.

 

8. Microwave

Time needed: 10 minutes.

Tools required: Damp sponge, small bowl, white vinegar, lemon.

Steps:

1) Add a few drops of white vinegar to a small bowl of water. Squeeze half a lemon into the bowl as well.

2) Heat the bowl in the microwave for 4-5 minutes.

3) Leave the bowl sitting in the unopened microwave for up to 10 minutes to allow the steam to cut through the grease.

4) Remove the bowl and gently wipe out the stains and food particles with a damp cloth.

5) Use a dry cloth and wipe the internal surfaces of the microwave once more.
